32nd Anniversary - April 11th, 2010

Fools Five is a Minnesota certified 8K race (4.97 miles), as well as a 1 mile race. Walkers and wheelchairs are welcome to both distances, but pets, rollerblades, and bicycles are not allowed. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to raise pledges. Silent and live auctions take place Friday evening preceeding race day. All pledges and proceeds are donated to cancer research.

“Of course, I’m proud to know there’s a race I’ve won 13 times with victories in four different decades. I can’t say that about any other race. I will always be fond of Lewiston and the Fools Five because this is where I first learned about the power of giving. Serious athletes are, by nature, pretty self-centered, so it wasn’t easy to learn that there were bigger reasons than personal glory for racing. If in some way I have helped to send the message of the importance of being thankful for our gifts and the value of sharing our abundance with others, then every hard fought mile trying to bust through your crazy country winds was all worth it.”

- Tony Schiller, winner of Fools Five in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s

National Marrow Registry

Join the National Marrow Registry at the Fools Five Road Race April 11, 2010 in Lewiston, MN.

Give the gift of life to a patient in need. Join the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) this season. During this year's race, the Fools Five is partnering with the National Marrow Donor Program to register donors to provide a cure for those in need of transplants due to a fight with blood cancers and other life-threatening illnesses. The registration event will be held from 10am to 3pm in the Lewiston-Altura High School. Because of generous donations from the community and the NMDP, the cost of tissue typing will be waived for the first 200 people (it usually costs $52), so bring a friend. Since donors and recipients need to be of the same ethnic background, there is a urgent need for donors of color. To find out more about joining the National Marrow Registry, please visit www.marrow.org or call 1-800-MARROW2.

2010 Guest Speaker Kenechi Udeze

With the 20th pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected Kenechi Udeze, a defensive end from the University of Southern California who had become as good as any at his position.

Over three seasons at USC, he had 135 tackles, 51 of them for a loss, pushing opposing offenses back a total of 245 yards. His school record 28 sacks claimed 185 of those yards and his 14 forced fumbles all but gave him an honorary position on offense. In 2003 alone, Udeze recorded 16.5 sacks for an astounding 115 yards, which helped the Trojans to a share of their first national title in 25 years while becoming the first USC defensive lineman to earn All-America honors in 15 years. Turning professional was a matter of logic.
